“The example project helped more than the checklist. I could see what a finished version looked like, and then the labels started to make sense.”

Research is more useful when the interpretation stays connected to the person, question, and context behind it.

01 / LISTEN IN CONTEXT

Read the whole moment.

Each interview keeps the question beside the response, with a timestamp and a clear study context.

“I wanted one small thing to do first, just to know I was in the right place.”

02 / MAKE A CONNECTION

Highlight what matters.

Save a passage, then assign a theme yourself. The code describes your reading, not a machine’s conclusion.

A few useful lenses.

03 / KEEP THE EVIDENCE

Write an insight you can check.

Make an interpretation and attach the passages that support it. Every insight has a path back to its source.

THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE DETAIL

A quote is evidence.
An insight is your
interpretation.

Fieldnotes keeps those two things distinct. You choose the passages, assign the themes, and write the conclusion. The source remains available for another reading.

A few things to know.

Does Fieldnotes analyze the interviews automatically?

No. This demo uses manual passage highlighting, theme assignment, and insight writing. Search matches the text you enter. It does not infer sentiment, generate conclusions, or call an analysis service.

Are these real research participants?

No. The three interviews are original fictional examples written for this product concept. Names are replaced by participant numbers, and no real participant data is used.

Will my highlights survive a reload?

Yes, when browser storage is available. Highlights, theme assignments, and insight notes are saved locally in this browser. They do not sync to another device or another browser.

Can I take my work with me?

Prepare a Markdown export from the notebook. It includes highlighted passages, their themes, your insight notes, and source references. You can review, copy, or download it.
