Threshold court

A small place between a street and a garden. The doorway is the room’s most important object.

A small place between a street and a garden. The doorway is the room’s most important object.

Original generated spatial concept. Not a completed building.

The space before the room

Threshold court begins with the arrival rather than the enclosure. A gravel surface slows the approach, while one recessed opening draws the eye across an otherwise quiet wall. The tree gives the court a seasonal register without turning it into a planted display. The proposal imagines a place that can remain useful even when the door is closed.

Depth instead of ornament

The terracotta reveal is deliberately deeper than a simple painted frame. Its shadow changes the opening through the day and gives the threshold somewhere to pause. The pale brick keeps the rest of the elevation calm. Neither material is intended as a claim about a real supplier, structural system, or completed construction.

A concept with limits

The image and diagram are original speculative studies. The plan explains a relationship between approach, doorway, and enclosed space; it is not a measured survey or a permitting drawing. Drainage, access, structure, planting conditions, and weathering would require site-specific development.
