Sol Arden

Useful is enough.

I’m Sol Arden, a fictional independent developer.

I work on small browser tools and straightforward interfaces. My interest is in the details that make software understandable: what a control changes, what happens when something fails and whether the result can leave the application in a useful form.

This portfolio is intentionally compact. Linework is a complete local utility, and the accompanying note explains the decisions behind it. The project is an original self-directed study rather than a claim of commissioned client work.

How I work

I begin with a narrow task and a concrete example. I build the smallest version that can test the behavior, then refine the parts that create confusion. A good result should be easy to describe and should not require the user to trust an unexplained process.

Implementation follows that same principle. Prefer browser capabilities when they fit. Keep input separate from output. Preserve useful error states. Write down the order of operations. Avoid a dependency until it solves a problem that is actually present.

What this site keeps

No account, analytics or text history is required. Linework runs locally and does not persist its input. The portfolio itself consists of ordinary HTML documents with a local font. It can be downloaded and opened without a service.
