Low water

A short study of the places we build between land and water. The ladder provides the only promise of movement. Everything else waits.

A place made for entering the water, seen while nobody is using it. Select the image to enlarge.

An unoccupied invitation

The study began with the shape of a ladder. Against the flat concrete platform, its small vertical interruption makes the entire image feel expectant. The human body is absent, but the dimensions keep referring to it: the width of a handrail, the distance to the first rung, the shallow drop toward the surface.

Working with a quiet horizon

The horizon sits high enough to leave the foreground unresolved. A little of the sea is enough. Rather than making an image about a distant view, the composition puts the viewer on a constructed edge. The softened light reduces spectacle and allows the small rust-colored shape to hold attention.

What the image leaves open

This is an original generated photographic study, not documentary evidence of a real coastal site. Its setting was composed for this portfolio. The accompanying notes describe choices within the image rather than claiming a journey, client commission, or exhibition that did not happen.
